WVU Small Farms Conference
Come out from March 1, 2012 at 6:00 PM to March 3, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Waterfront Place Conference Center, in Morgantown, WV and take advantage of the opportunity to attend specific topic workshops that will include Energy, Agri-Tourism and High Tunnels, Beekeeping, Farm Tax Information, Non-timber Forest Crops, among others. The Winter Blues Farmers Market will also be held that evening, and will offer a multitude of vendors selling their products.

All meals and breaks for the conference will be sourced from local farmers and prepared by the enthusiastic staff at Waterfront. WVU Lichen and Moss Workshop:
Come out on Saturday; March 3, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM to the WVU Life Sciences Building and Botanical Gardens and join Dr. Sue Studlar from the WVU Botany Department who will host a workshop on lichens, mosses, and bryophytes.

This demonstration and display will be a hands-on workshop beginning in the Botany Lab and concluding at the Botanical Gardens to view lichens and mosses in their native habitats including Spagum moss. More than 40 species of lichens have been found in this garden.

"The New USDA NRCS Kanawha County Forester Meet & Greet"
Come out on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM to the USDA Service Center at 418 Goff Mountain Road in Cross Lanes, WV and meet Mark Metz the new NRCS forester for Kanawha County, WV.

What does this mean for landowners and cooperators? Forest Stewardship Plan development, determination of needs for forestry cost share practices, crop tree release, control of woody invasive plants (Tree-of-heaven, grapevines, etc.), tree & shrub establishment, fencing, wildlife management under the WHIP program, etc.
