Spring Time Chores 

(Helpful Tips, Hints and Reminders)

	If you are going to plant trees this year, you need to be getting them ordered.  Tree seedlings are usually shipped in February or early March.  They should be planted in March or Early April.
Planning on burning some brush as a "spring clean up" project? Remember "FIRE SEASON" runs March 1st through May 31st. During Fire Season you can burn legally only after 4:00 p.m. and only if the burning area is surrounded by a 10-foot wide safety strip and someone is with the fire at all times! Also be sure to use some common sense when burning .... if it is hot dry and windy, DON'T BURN! Wait until conditions are more favorable for safe burning.
	This is also a time you should consider doing some maintenance on your woodland roads.  After a long winter and some uncommonly heavy rains  last fall, your culverts, waterbars and ditches could probably use a good cleaning.  Removing leaves, sticks and other debris will allow these water control measures to function properly and will help insure a long usable life for your roads.
If you have any trees needing pruned (except maple trees and those shrubs that flower in early spring), right now is a good time to take care of that chore.  And please do a better job than the fellow pictured to the right.  If you would like some helpful tips about proper pruning techniques CLICK HERE.
	While you have your tractor out getting ready to work on your vegetable garden, this would be the time to go ahead and prepare those wildlife food plots for the May or June planting of warm season grasses and/or legumes.  Also don't forget to soil test to see how much lime and fertilizer is needed.
