Many, if not the majority of landowners, have no idea of what their rights regarding oil and gas drilling on or near their property.  Many of he questions are the same whether they own just the surface or if they own surface and a portion or all of the mineral rights, but there are many differences too.  There has been a user-friendly document produced which was designed to help landowners navigate through this very complex issue and provide extremely beneficial information to help them protect their rights as landowners.  This 166 page document is entitled West Virginia – Surface Owners’ Guide to Oil and Gas, Second Edition 2004/2005.
